Laroche - Halifax
About us
We are open Monday to Friday, 7.30am – 6.00pm.
The nursery is closed for the week between Christmas and New Year and all bank holidays.
We provide quality care for up to 54 children from birth to 5 years.
Our nursery is divided into 4 areas:
| Age Group | |
| The Baby room | birth - 1 year |
| The Toddler room | 1 year - 2 year |
| The Infants | 2 year - 3 year |
| Pre School | 3 year - 5 year |
Each room strictly follows by the child/staff ratios set down by OFSTED and has experienced, qualified staff who attend regular training courses to update their expertise.
As well as a spacious and well equipped nursery building we also have a safe and secure outdoor play area, which has been recently refurbished to create a varied and stimulating recreational environment.
Admissions procedure
Following your initial enquiry a visit will be arranged to show prospective parents around the nursery and discuss any queries or specific needs for your child. You re encouraged to bring your child/children with you.
Once you decide that you would like your child to be a part of Laroche Day Nursery you will be asked to complete a registration form. This will include a start date and we will arrange some settling in visits for your child, nearer the start date.
The Key worker System
Our nursery has a key worker system in operation. Your child will be allocated a member of staff who will be responsible for the initial settling in period, this will enable your child to form bonds with his/her key worker. Your child's key worker will also be responsible for keeping developmental records and writing out your child’s daily sheet. However, please note that the key worker does not have sole charge of your child throughout the day and therefore they may not necessarily be the person giving you feedback at the end of every day.
Settling in visits
A settling-in period is a time before your child joins the nursery. We consider it important that your child has an opportunity to spend some time in the nursery before the actual starting day, in order to get to know their key worker, the children and other staff. Then by the time your child starts nursery, they will be quite settled and feel confident within their new environment. We encourage parents and children to visit on at least three occasions before the starting date. For the first visit we suggest staying with your child for about an hour, so that you can talk to the staff about routines and anything specific requirements for your child. For the second visit we suggest trying to leave your child for an hour. For the third visit we suggest leaving your child for two hours, over a mealtime, so that they can experience eating with a large group. Some children may need more than three visits and if this is the case we will advise you and more can be arranged.
These visits will be a time when, through building a relationship between staff and parents, your child will begin to settle and form trusting relationships with staff, in particular their key worker. Children will be shown the basics, where the toilets are, where to hang their coats and will be encouraged to join in with the activities. Parents can be asked about any particular eating or sleeping habits that their child has.

Learning through play
Birth to 3:
We use the ‘birth to three matters’ framework to care for and educate babies and children from birth to three years.
The framework:
- Values and celebrates babies and children
- Recognises their individuality, efforts and achievements
- Recognises that all children have from birth a need to develop, learning through interaction with people and exploration of the world around them
- Recognises the holistic nature of development and learning
- Acknowledges, values and supports the adults that work with babies and young children
3 – 5yrs:
When children reach the age of three they continue to learn through play, although now following the early learning goals.
The goals are six areas of learning that develop children’s key skills, and help prepare for key stage 1 of the national curriculum.
