Learning through play

Throughout the nursery from babies to pre-school we follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage). Staff plan experiences around children's interests and their individual development through the 6 areas of learning. Experiences and activities are planned through staff observing, assessing and planning for children's individual interests and next steps to further progress children's all round development.

0-3 years:

All children learn through play, heuristic play is a method where the children learn by making discoveries and have the freedom to make their own choices in play. Children are naturally inquisitive and their attention span is developed by heuristic play.

Any object can be a heuristic object; a child will investigate anything that interests them. For example, when a young child receives a toy of some kind, what do they prefer to play and explore- the toy or the box it came in?

There is no right or wrong in heuristic play therefore only positive experiences.

3-5 years

When the children reach the age of three they continue to learn through play, although they are now following the early learning goals.

Admissions procedure

After an initial enquiry, a visit will be arranged with either Laura or Lynne to show prospective parents around the nursery and discuss any queries. You are encouraged to bring your child/ren with you, and any older siblings who sometimes like to make sure their little brother or sister will be okay.

On this visit Laura/Lynne will discuss with you the best way for your child to settle. Once you have decided that you would like your child to be part of Laroche daycare nursery, and have completed the registration form and sent the non-refundable £ 50-registration fee, you will receive a letter confirming a place and a start date. You can talk to Laura or Lynne about organising two, one hour, settling in visits. The registration fee covers the cost of these visits, and secures your place.

Mothers-to-be can ensure that they have one less thing to concern themselves with, by securing their child’s place with Laroche before the happy event.

Laroche provides a wonderful opportunity for your child to learn and develop, whether you have chosen nursery care out of necessity or by choice. OFSTED place guidelines upon day nurseries and at Laroche we take these very seriously. Therefore, if your child attends Laroche, you can be assured of the highest standards of childcare for the benefit of you and your child.
